How To Choose And Create A Unique Blog Template

If you’re using WordPress, you probably know by now that they have many selections of blog templates.  Some people still use the standard one.  There are others who would like to make their website look more lively, but don’t know how. 

With WordPress, the templates are actually called themes.  They have plenty available to choose from.  In the main dashboard area, there will be a link called “Presentation”.  This link will be located near the top of the page. 

When you click on the “Presentation” link, scroll down the page until you reach the “Get More Themes” section.  This connects to the theme directory for WordPress.  There are so many it would take you hours to go through them all. 

If you have an idea of what you’re looking for, you can pare down your search.  When you find something that may suit you, test it first by using the “Test Run” selection.  This way, you will be able to see what it actually looks like. 

It shows up as a full screen.  If it meets your expectations, you can download it and use for your site.  Create a separate folder to store the templates.  This will make it easier to find for future use.  You’ll have to upload it to your site area.  You can do this by using an FTP (file transfer protocol) program. 

You also have to decide the colors you want to use and how many columns your site will have.  Most sites have either two or three columns.  You can choose to have a sidebar placed on either side of the site. 

The sidebar column is usually narrower and features article links.  Some people use it to place Adsense advertisements.  This is a good way to bring in additional income from your site.  The advertisements placed on the site have to be put on there a certain way; otherwise you stand a chance of not making any revenue from advertisers.

Use the “Show” button to see how your site looks with the additional items.  Check the thumbnail images.  If you’ve found what you want and it’s a good fit, then by all means download and save to your hard drive.  Upload the template to your web site. 

Go by the directions given in the WordPress section.  After that, look for the “Refresh” command and select your new template.  There you have it, your own customized WordPress template.

Using templates for your Blogger site is a simple process.  Their features are easy to maneuver and don’t require a lot of time to install.  You can customize it any way you want with the tools they have available.  It only takes a few clicks to get it going.  

The majority of these users prefer to use other layouts instead of the classic one.  If you wish to do that, go to the “Template” section and click on the tab.  There should be a “Customize Design” link under that tab. 

Click on that and the site will advise you that your current template will be saved in the event you wish to use it again.  Next click the “Upgrade Your Template” button.  Choose your selection and save it.  Then you’ll be referred back to the “Page Elements” section where you can choose more options, such as colors, fonts, etc.

That’s all there is to it.  These templates can be installed within a few minutes with a few clicks and you have a nice, new design for your site.
